JEME worked on many projects, to list some of them:
DIRIYAH BIENNALE
I had the honor of being invited by Diriyah Biennale Foundation to collaborate on "Altariq," an installation by artist and composer Tariq Atoui. This project explores tribal musical traditions across the Arab world.
In preparation for the performance, I visited the Biennale with my wife and daughter, capturing the unique ambiance. I recorded my wife & 2-year-old daughter's voice, dinner conversations, and the exhibition's sounds of drums and metals, integrating these elements into my work. Just days before the Live performance, Sarah and I added vocals inspired by Abu Baker Salem’s "Fi Alsamaa Gheim."
This project pushed me to explore new creative territories, resulting in something truly unique and dierent from my usual style.
About the installation:
Tarek Atoui long-term research and performance project الطارق focuses on an Arabic musical sensibility known as tarab, which describes the emotional thrall and ecstatic state of the listener. Displayed here are instruments bought during the artist’s research in Saudi Arabia. Some are repurposed; others have been expertly made by local craftsmen. Atoui has adapted the instruments to continuously play compositions combining contemporary electronic sounds and field recordings from Morocco and Saudi Arabia.
